DASISH WP 5, Task 5.6, Annotation Framework

Goals

The task is to put into place an annotation framework for web-content that is based on the motivations of all participating communities. Where possible we will build on existing tools and standards (Open Annotation Architecture, ​http://www.openannotation.org/) and where necessary we will invest in additional programming. Two lines of activities are scheduled:

• To provide an annotation framework that is based on an existing web browser extension client (Wired-Marker, ​http://www.wired-marker.org/en/index.html), for which a backend will be developed. A central database hosted e.g. at the MPI will store user information and all the created content. Users will be able to annotate pieces of text, images and also already existing annotations. It will be possible to create annotations with multiple targets.

• To provide an annotation framework that uses bindings to other tools and content viewers, which TLA controls, e.g. ANNEX (​http://tla.mpi.nl/tools/tla-tools/annex/), LEXUS (​http://tla.mpi.nl/tools/tla-tools/lexus/). It will allow all the functionality and will make use of the same API as the extension tool and will store all additional information.
