Before adding a DC for the first time, please check out the specifications in the DCR Guidelines. The authority and credibility of the DCR depend on your careful compliance with basic naming and definition principles.

27
The first screen that appears is the Administrative Information Section. The system assigns a non-mnemonic numerical identifier to your new DC when you save the specification. This numerical identifier forms the base for the non-mnemonic persistent identifer (PID) assigned to the DC. You begin your work by filling in the attributes in the Identification class.
28
Identifier

29
The identifier is a mandatory field. Enter a unique camel case string in the Identifier field. It should be a meaningful name, such as the camel case form of the preferred English data element name. It will be used together with the PID to access the data category both inside the DCR and as a reference from other external language resources.

30
The identifier checker checks whether:
31

32
that identifier is a valid XML local name (see the DCR Guidelines for info on XML names);

33
that identifier already exists in your private workspace;

34
a DC with that identifier exists in the public space that you can use instead.

35

36
After you have checked out these options, if you still want to create the new DC (maybe you need a different definition), the checker should display a green check mark and you can move on. If the data category definition in the existing field is the same as that for your DC, you can simply add your profile to the existing data category specification rather than creatin a new one. Check the profile page for instructions on how to do this. If you need a different conceptual domain from the existing one, you can create it when you get to the Conceptual Domain section of the template.

37
Version

38
The Version number is set to 0.0.0. If you keep this DC in your private space, it stays at this level. 47
Select the desired data category type from the dropdown menu. Take care not to make an error because this categorization strongly affects the structure and behavior of your data category specification. It can be changed, however, but if you do that, check back through the entire entry carefully to make sure the specification is complete and correct.

49
The Justification field is mandatory. Enter the reason why this data category is important to a community of practice working with language resources.
