1. AAI Taskforce Meeting 26.10.2016 15:15 -- 15.55 Aix-en-Provence

Present: Hanna Hedeland, Tommi Pirinen (DE); Krista Liin (EE); Daan Broeder (NL); Martin Matthiesen (FI, minutes)

2. Agenda

We went through the first 3 points of the agenda rather quickly since key persons were not present to go into details.

2.1. Status of Lindat's Attribute Aggregator Aaggreg

The system was to be presented in a paper session the following day, so we did not go into details.

2.2. The entity category clarin.eu/category/member

We moved this discussion to a later meeting.

2.3. The upcoming EU Data Protection regulation

CLARIN should be well prepared for the regulation, since the CLARIN centre certification requirements demand proper user data handling (cf. Data Seal of Approval, Data Protection Code of Conduct) There is however uncertainty as to how much extra demands the new regulation will impose on centres. We don't expect massive problems, but we should have a clear idea of possible new responsibilities before the new regulation becomes law in May 2018. Martin will take this up with the CLARIN Legal Committee. This issue does concern also centres services in CLARIN centres which use local accounts.

2.4. A future structure of the AAI Taskfore

Having regular meetings with agenda suggesitions via a mailing list has possibly not the most effective way in furthering AAI issues within CLARIN.

One example is Aaggreg which has been promoted on the list and also via the SCCTC but has not reached a wider audience since the summer.

We did not come up with concrete plans for the future, just with observations:

  • Services and their users depend to a varying degree on AAI, therefore the topic is not equally relevant to all, and effective problem solving not always a high priority.
  • The existence and promotion of tools like Aaaggreg should be improved (happening at this CAC). We could to better in the future explaining to whom AAI related tools and developments are relevant and why.
  • The AAI Taskforce as a forum to discuss problems and find solutions seems to decrease in significance. A lot of us know what to do with IdPs? which are difficult about Attribute Release. There does seem to be a need to share such knowlege more effectively within CLARIN, one way forward would be to move away the focus from problem solving to more effective knowledge sharing wihtin CLARIN.
  • We have good relations to eduGAIN, EUDAT, national federations, these should be kept up.
