Analysis

Andreas has suggested an additional weakness which is accepted and included (Limited availabilty of tools for metadata creation)

Goals

Oddrun has proposed a one (short) paragraph 'CMDI mission' statement which is accepted and included:

The mission of CMDI is to provide a comprehensive infrastructure for metadata management in the CLARIN community. The leading concerns of CMDI are to cover any kind of language resources, to offer flexibility for metadata modellers and creators, as well as ensuring semantic interoperability and discoverability of the resulting metadata.

Sketch of (mixed) high and low level goals + assessment actions were organised into a new list of goals, and a separate list of ways of assessing the current state in terms of these goals.

  • Support the creation of high quality metadata records
  • Provide working solutions for the creation of metadata to (aspiring) creators of new metadata
  • [Make it as easy as possible to share and reuse metadata components for specific use cases (for metadata modellers)]
  • [Make it as easy as possible to create new metadata components and profiles while allowing for as much of the interoperability and discoverability benefits as possible]
  • [Making the metadata work for the end user (discoverability scenario inside and outside our infrastructure)]
  • [Support for essential CMDI features throughout infrastructure aspects]
  • [Provide sufficient support and documentation for modellers, metadata creators and users and developers]

TODO: finalise the list of goals, especially the items between brackets (highlighted in yellow in the document) for now; these could probably be a bit more to the point and in any case need better phrasing (before next meeting)

Tasks

A table of potential tasks to be taken up (partially in parallel) in the short - mid term has been added to the document. For each task, a small (sub) task force can be initiated, and reporting should take place on a regular basis in broader meetings (i.e. similar scope to this meeting).

TODO: Add any missing tasks (before next meeting)

TODO: Add names of persons interested in contributing to the task (before next meeting)

TODO: Add priorities (after next meeting)

Planning
