Notes

Best practices guide

  • Menzo fixed lower/upper case in the bibliographic entries
  • Menzo CMDI 1.2 spec now has a handle (thanks to Willem)
  • Menzo more references to these bib entries
  • Menzo started working on splitting CS3 into 2 BPs (use English for “core metadata” (CS7), and always specify the language used (CS3)) … still a bit work in progress
  • Alex and Twan made the namespaces table fix (rotated) on the page
  • Oddrun normalised spelling to British English
  • Twan released a new version of the guide (v1.2.0)

Discussion of notes and TODOs

  • Removed notes from preface
  • Outline: paragraph on common use cases can be written (Alex will do this)
  • "Check CMDI (instance) validator" TODOs should reference (to-be-created) GitHub issues
  • Contacting owners of existing components: it would be good if the component registry had some better facilities for this, but at the moment it doesn't. Issue to be created.
  • "How to select a matching (semantically close enough) concept? When do you need to suggest a new concept?": CCR registry and the metadata schema within the registry should be mentioned + all concepts have a definition
    • See if this needs to be synchronised with the workflow description
  • "C16: Refer to approved concepts" could be written
  • Modelling profiles section: expand "For a similar reason it is advised to compare a new design with recommended profiles"

Action points

Remaining

  • [ ] Document CMDValidate markers in 'how to use section' (Menzo)
  • [\] Work on splitting up CS3 (Menzo)
    • started working on splitting CS3 into 2 BPs (use English for “core metadata” (CS7), and always specify the language used (CS3)) … still a bit work in progress
  • [ ] Go through document and check British English spelling (Oddrun)
  • [ ] Transfer 'principal responsible' information from GitBook to document; indicate with annotation like comments or TODOs but with new distinct styling (Twan)
  • [ ] Align "Common approaches: Multilingual metadata" section with best pratices - in particular CS3 and its spin-off (Twan)
  • [ ] Publish documentation for guide release process (Twan)

New

  • [] Add references to 'How to use this guide' on basic CMD principles and general web resources best practices (Menzo?)
  • [] Write paragraph on common approaches part of guide in "Outline" (Alex)
  • [] Make GitHub issues for "Check CMDI (instance) validator" TODOs (Twan)
  • [] Make GitHub issues for "requesting changes to existing components" (see C11) (Twan)
  • [] Concepts section of component modelling: add reference to CCR registry, the metadata schema within it, and advice to look at concept definitions (Oddrun)
  • [] Check coverage of CCR (concept selection, new concept request) in workflow (Susanne)

  • [] Expand "P1: Reuse components" (Alex)

General info/recommended components

Hanna:

  • The internal work on a GeneralInfo component has been on hold, since it will be incorporated into the work on ISO 24622-3 "Language resource management - Component metadata infrastructure (CMDI) - Part 3: Recommended Components" (I think that'll be it's name). The group's members are (I think, right now):
    • Maria Gavriilidou, CLARIN:EL, Griechenland
    • Penny Labropoulou, CLARIN:EL, Griechenland
    • Twan Goosen, CLARIN ERIC
    • Menzo Windhouwer, CLARIN ERIC/CLARIN-NL, Niederlande
    • Monica Monachini, CLARIN-IT, Italien
    • Thorsten Trippel, CLARIN-D, Deutschland
    • Hanna Hedeland, CLARIN-D, Deutschland
    • Felix Rau, CLARIN-D, Deutschland
  • Right now this group is gathering individual metadata schemas and similar initiatives focussing on creating interoperability for such schemas (including the previous work done within the CMDI Best Practices and VLO TF/WG)

to use this as a basis. Apart from the ISO work, as a result of previous "GeneralInfo work", the Fachinformationsdienst Nordeuropa (Discipline Information Service "Northern Europe") at the Kiel University Library have define a minimal set required for German library cataloguing of corpora mainly based on DataCite? in accordance with representatives from the Northern European CLARIN countries (CLARINNO, FIN-CLARIN, SWE-CLARIN, CLARIN-DK) whose (CMDI) metadata was in most cases related to a MetaShare? background. I'll share the document from them until next meeting.

Planning

For the next meeting we focus on the same area of the guide (beginning of document to page 10) and discuss progress on TODOs.
